Platinum Weddings is a show on WE tv which is about :"Imagine a wedding day in which no detail is too minuscule, no wish is too extravagant and no request is unattainable. It’s a dream come true for any bride-to-be. Join WE tv for the ultimate wedding show that captures the drama and decadence of wedding planning on an extraordinary budget!"
Everyday I sit in front of the television and watch as one girl after another gets married in the most extravagant way ever. She is a princess for the day, not that there is anything wrong with that, you should feel like that on your special day; but at what cost? These people are spending fortunes for a party that lasts one day or depending on a religion as long as a week like in Traditional Indian Weddings, maybe they could have donated some of that money to a worthy cost to bring this world to a better state of being - feed the hungry and not the rich. Yes it is definitely appealing and shiny and as humans we are almost magnetized to anything that sparkles as shiny glittering diamond; especially if it is huge and there is lots of them just blinding you as you enter the room.
The white cake with golden flowers was the cake at a friends wedding, a moderate and tasteful one but it did not cost a fortune, while still making a festive point and making that woman's dreams come true. To me this is reality meets reality Television. Every girl dreams big for her wedding but can the budget measure up to those dream? Not everyone can afford to make a statement of the year by having a spectacular wedding, but i believe it is just that as long as the people involved in it are doing it for the right reason. If they are happy then they are wealthy, there is no need to show off. I do have to say that a white beautiful dress and a tasty cake afterward are mandatory but everything else can be figured out that it is still beautiful but within the budget. I always say that the after party can take place at your friends back yard as long as it can accommodate the number of people you have invited. Food can be a collaborative effort of the family members and close friends of the family who can bring their home cooked signature dishes to the reception at the house. Make you wedding small and intimate and gather all the people who have been with you through everything to be a part of this special day.
So when i see these girls who cannot afford their dream but still do by putting everything on their credit cards and accepting generous help from their parents who probably don't even have all that capital to invest in this one day party it makes me unhappy due to recognizing their absolute selfishness. Everything can be done at a reasonable cost and still be a wonderful and stunning event.
Take your time to plan and figure out how to budget your money the right way. Preparation is the key. Minimalistic goals can be absolutely chic. Modern weddings may only benefit from going with that approach.

Since i mentioned that Cakes and Dresses are important then you should also know few places that have some of the most amazing Cakes that one can get. This information once again comes from Television where the program is called: "Amazing Wedding Cakes" - A show that is all about cakes for various occasions; mostly weddings but also engagement parties, bar and bat mitzvas, Sweet 16th, birthdays and so on. It is a show on how a client comes in to the store has a consultation to figure out the design and flavor of the cake they want and then the process begins. We see the sketches and the work begins to realize the cake that the clients described. Sometimes the Cake tailor will have total creative control over the masterpiece and that is when there is no limit what can or cannot be done; the only 2 obstacles are the time limit and the size - it must fit into a car and be able to be taken out of the place of where it is prepared. At the end of each segment the breathtaking Cake is delivered to its appointed location for the party and the clients comment on the cake and keep saying that they can't believe that it is edible. These Cake tailors are Cake magicians because of the work they deliver and joy and smiles that they bring to all their customers. In NY check out CAKE ALCHEMY at 805 6th Ave. (btw 27th & 28th), 4th floor, New York, NY 10001 Tel: 212-255-0584 or their Website : cakealchemy.com. Go ahead have a cake you deserve it. Definitely make sure that during the wedding you actually eat the food and the specialty cake that you ordered and take pictures to remember it for years to come. If your whole wedding can't be extraordinary at least your dress and the cake will be something talked about.
